Police on Sunday arrested a 24-year-old man over the murder of a university student in Kisarazu, Chiba Prefecture. The suspect, identified as Yuki Honda, was arrested on suspicion of murdering 19-year-old Kana Kikuchi and disposing of her body beside a woodland path in Kisarazu.
Police said that Honda has admitted traveling to Kisarazu but denies murdering Kikuchi. Police said they believe Honda, who was born in Kisazaru, is likely to be familiar with the area in which Kikuchi’s body was discovered.
During questioning, Honda told police, “I approached her and tried to pick her up about a month ago. That’s how we got to know each other. I drove to Kisazaru and met her at her home, but I didn’t kill her.”
Police said they will search Honda’s home later Monday.
An autopsy will also take place to establish the exact cause of Kikuchi’s death.
