Tokyo observed the first scorching day this year as temperatures reached 30 C in the downtown Otemachi business district Wednesday morning, the day of summer solstice, due to sunny spells caused by a high pressure system in eastern Japan in the middle of the rainy season, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
The first scorching day in Tokyo with temperatures reaching 30 C or higher came 32 days later than the previous year. The agency issued a warning about heatstroke.
