Japan has been awarded the 2014 figure skating world championships, three months after giving up this year’s event in the wake of a devastating earthquake.

This year’s world championships originally were scheduled to be March 21-27 in Tokyo. But Japanese officials decided there was no way the country could serve as host following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami and subsequent nuclear crisis, and the world championships were moved to Moscow.
