Serena Williams was overcome with emotion after the defending champion clinched her place in round two

(CNN) -- Former world No. 1 Serena Williams broke down in tears after a grueling 6-3 3-6 6-1 victory over Aravane Rezai in the first match of her title defense at Wimbledon on Tuesday.
