(CNN) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will open the first bay of the Morganza Spillway Saturday afternoon, a move that will spare some areas from severe flooding while redirecting water into other areas."Protecting lives is the No. 1 thing we are looking for," said Gen. Michael Walsh. "That's exactly what we're doing as we operat the different systems on the Mississippi River."One bay will be opened Saturday, and one or two others could be opened Sunday, the Corps of Engineers said.
